Exactly. We had bad traffic all the way to St. Pierre, (Where the volcano
is, I think, that is the name of the town) and once there, after looking for a
half hour, we could not park and never did see the sight. We then went into
the center of the island, where the issue was much worse. But the traffic
for that first hour or so was enough to sour much of our experience.
If I go to Martinique again, I would not rent a car, but rather take a taxi,
or possibly a shore excursion, although I avoid them, because of this
experience. My husband's response was much more negative than mine (he was
driving) he says he will never got to Martinique again!
St. Martin/Sint Maartin is another story. We rented a car there, also, walked
about 3/4 of a mile to the car agency and had no problem. We visited the
Butterfly farm, Orient beach, Grand CAse and Marigot before returning to
Philipsburg and it was very very pleasant.
