One more tip...Bring some small items that can be offered to locals as
gifts such as pens, key chains, etc. Often times promotional items with
advertising which I would otherwise discard mean a lot to someone who is not
very likely to ever visit your country.

When I first visited Jamaica in 1991, I brought dozens of promotional lapel
pins that were designed to resemble a wishbone, the old logo of the Maryland
lottery. While attending a reggae show in Negril I declined to purchase
cigarettes, snacks, etc from aggressive vendors, but usually gave the more
persistent vendors one of the wishbone pins. They were always quite
appreciative.

Two nights later I was attending a show at another venue. When approached by
one of the vendors from the previous show, as soon as he recognized me he
apologized then pointed to the wishbone pin which he proudly displayed on
his hat!
