Myron, I would highly recommend Raratonga....exceptional snorkelling as that
island is enclosed with a coral reef and therefore a super lagoon. The
price on Raratonga was very reasonable, however it was several years ago
before the US$ went down the toilet. Do check to see what the US$ is doing
in Fiji as well. For Raratonga it is the Cook Island $ however I believe
locked into the NZ$. There is a good self catering place to stay I can look
up the name if you like let me know. It was a townhouse with about 2 bd,
kitchen and a commual pool with kayak type boats for free use. Get a car
although the island is not that big you can walk here to there but
unfortunately here to there is pretty spread out. Best way to get there is
Air New Zealand out of LA, they make a stop in Tahiti....certainly a
worthwhile layover coming or going but extremely expensive. Recommend
Moorea there. Good luck to you.
