Puerto Rico: remote, non-touristy, horseback, mountains? Help! Posted on: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 12:32:39 -0400

Hi Puerto Rico aficionadoes!

My 20-year-old daughter and I want to spend 2-3 weeks in Puerto Rico,
avoiding San Juan and visiting beautiful remote areas where real people,
not tourists, live. We would like to stay in small, inexpensive
lodgings, not touristy hotels. Her Spanish is excellent and mine is
adequate. Also, recently I spent time in Costa Rica and much enjoyed
long days on horseback in the mountains with a guide. It was not very
expensive. Is such a thing possible in Puerto Rico? Does anybody have
recommendations on any level?

Thanks,
Jane
