My daughter told me that if I wanted to blend in in London, I should
not wear T-shirts or sweat shirts with logos on them, or baseball
hats, or athletic shoes or a waist (fanny) pack (bum bag) or have lots
of cameras.
Actually I found that there were so many tourists in London that it
didn't matter - they knew I was a tourist, just not where I was from.
Because I DID have a waist pack, and I DID have cameras, and I don't
wear formal leather shoes anymore, although they aren't strictly
speaking athletic shoes. I didn't wear shorts or T-shirts or baseball
caps, but that isn't my style and I didn't change it for the trip.
I have heard that in Costa Rica, men who wear shorts in the city are
considered to be either tourists (backpack gives it away) or gay.
That wasn't a problem for me there either.
