I have been reading more and more how this 5 star Riu Playacar hotel in
Playa Del Carmen has air conditioning issues with their rooms. I have some
respiratory issues that require me to sleep in a relatively cool
environment. The first time we went to Cancun, the AC was very cold...a
good thing. But the second time in the fall, at a different hotel, it
wasn't cold enough. We said we wouldn't stay at this hotel again. This was
the Royal Solaris.
We are booked for travel in September at the Riu Playacar. What can one do
if one experiences this problem? A common technique is to stall and say it
will be fixed "tomorrow" and then "tomorrow" again without the AC being
fixed.
If this is a common problem that isn't rectified in a timely manner, then I
think that perhaps we should forgo our $600 deposit to cut our losses.
Ideally, we are looking for some peace of mind here.

One alternative is to write a letter to the resort and tell them of your
specific need, then see how they address it (before you leave, that is, not
after you arrive). If they promise to accommodate you, then follow through,
then no problem.
