It's not a problem at all. They will likely charge you in dollars
what locals pay in pesos (10x as much) but it's still something like
a dollar for a pineapple so you'd have to be churlish to deny them
a bit of extra cash. They don't mind getting it either, so everyone
is happy.
Most towns have large organic gardens for growing fruit+veg for
the inhabitants. It's good quality stuff, and if you stay in B&Bs,
you will get lots of it.
