My wife and I are planning a trip to St. Croix in the fall, probably
late
November. It'll be the first time to the Caribbean for either of us.
We've
been several times to Mexico, Hawaii and Tahiti. Most times we were
quite
pleased, but a few times disappointed. The disappointments were mostly
about
beaches or lack thereof. The best was on the Island of Moorea in
French
Polynesia, where we both discovered snorkeling. My first reaction was,
"Damn, no surf", but as it turned out, I much preferred it. The rooms
were
thatched roof cottages on a sandy beach, and they came with mask, fins
and
snorkel. The worst was a B&B on Kauai. The room was on the "beach",
but the
water had an oily sheen and there was trash floating around. The good
part
of that was that it got us off our lazy butts and we explored the
island
more than we otherwise would have.
Sorry about rattling on, but as I web surf on St Croix, it's clear
that not
all the beaches are created equal and many places are a drive or ferry
ride
away, which just won't do. What I'd really like to know is, which are
the
hotels (or condos or whatever) that have nice sandy beaches where we
can get
up in the morning, slip on our suits (or not!) and stumble right down
to the
water. Snorkeling is a plus, close to a busy town is a plus, good food
is a
plus, bar and pool are plusses, inexpensive is a plus, don't care
about golf
or tennis, but the beach, that's the clincher.
Any and all comments appreciated.
