Silver items should have a .925 hallmark (usually stamped on the
inside of the clasp).

And hondle, hondle, hondle. You can't hondle (bargain) in the US, but
you can in Mexico! You can always walk away and if you really want the
item, come back another time, perhaps deal with a different
salesperson.
