We are planning a Caribbean vacation this February, prefer US Virgin Islands.
Any thoughts on St. Croix?

Interested in:

Nice beaches for kids (age 5 and 7)
Snorkelling spots
Nightlife not a big concern, but would not be terrible.
Boating day trips possible to other islands etc.

Are day trips to other USVI and BVI possible from St. Croix?

Yes, I know St. John is ideal, but we're looking for a timeshare match, which
has not so far been forthcoming for St. John.

I have heard of crime on St. John. How bad is it? We have 4 adults, 2 kids
going, and have happily visited Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, etc.
