I've heard that before, but the Caribbean isn't the only place it
happens. On a trip a few months ago I was on 9 flights - 2 Qantas, 1
Air Jamaica & the rest American Airlines. Not one was on time, the
worst were the AA.
My last trip was quicker, only 4 flights and every one of those was
late, some seriously. Well, actually, one of the Air Jamaica was
cancelled, but they termed it late & it became a pick-up flight
instead of non-stop.
Last year it took me (I think) 11 flights for a mainly Caribbean trip.
Qantas, American & British Airways. Only the Qantas were on time
then, I figured that was because of my timing - just before the Iraq
war started.
I find the problem with bigger airlines has worsened the last few
years, security or what?

Not only vital, for tourists like me I find they are more convenient.
And nice staff, I've found.
