Get some travel books, or browse them at your local Barns & Noble. This
way you can get an idea of which island(s). If you and the other couple
are completely inexperienced about travel outside your homeland...maybe
a savvy travel agent who knows the Caribbean and All Inclusives can help.
Alternatively have you considered taking a cruise? Different Cruise
Lines offer 4 - 5 day cruises along with longer ones. I don't know your
budget, but you might look into Celebrity, Princess or Holland
America. HAL targets mature travelers. You won't have to deal with a
lot of party animals.
You might also want to look at Mexico's Yucatan. The area between
Cancun and Tulum is called the Rivera Maya. Once you get south of
Cancun there are lots of All Inclusives built on a more human scale.
Playacar and Playa del Carmen directly to the north offer the exclusion
of an A. I. and a great Mexican town to explore.
