My sister works out of the Twin Cities of MN as a Travel Agent. If you
go through a good agent he/she should be able to fill in information
such as beach quality, typical clientel and what the property is near. I
would trust my sister with any booking for me, not because she's related
but because she knows her stuff and can get me a great price. Karen
favors Punta Cana. I have gotten emails from her while staying at Melia
Caribe Tropical and Paradisus Punta Cana. She said she got the best
service and food at Paradisus. Melia Caribe Tropical got positive
ratings for beach and being close to the airport but not too close.
Iberostar is a standardized brand. I've stayed at the one on Cozumel.
It's kind of far from San Miguel, it's more for folks who don't plan to
leave the property while staying at an A. I. But, that's Cozumel Mexico.
You can get a fairly reliable overview of the Dominican Republic
Iberostars at Apple Vacations website. You can also play Travel Agent
and workup some package prices at Apple. This prices are standard, and
travel agents have access to unpublished prices. Still they are useful
as a comparison point. I often use Apple Vacations or Continental
Vacations that way - then I run the prices past my sister. She always
manages to beat them with upgrades or at a better rated hotel.
