The *facts* are that the EU, and European countries, are well ahead of
the USA in actively prohibiting discrimination on the grounds of .ual
orientation and in promoting equal rights including marriage or
partnership rights.
Do you have protection from discrimination or harassment at work? You
would in Britain, as of now. Can you register your partnership? You
could in the Netherlands, Spain, France, the UK later this year,
probably others I can't think of. Could you be openly gay in the US
military? How many openly gay senators or congresspeople are there?

In 2000, the European Union also adopted the European Charter of
Fundamental Rights. This includes .ual orientation discrimination as
a prohibited ground of discrimination in its non-discrimination clause
(art 21), being the first international human rights charter to do so.
