I have to be honest this is not my favorite destination and would never
visit as a sole destination. A few years back we took a cruise there
which stopped in other ports as well. I felt must more secure when
visiting the Dominican Republic by cruise ship and taking the Cruise
lines shore excursions. The one thing I remember though is pulling into
the port and seeing men with machine guns standing around the perimiter
of the beach. Needless to say, we did our shore excursion and went
right back on the cruiseship.
