I think the best hiking is Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe. Being a rich country
(it is France) they spend money on maintaining an entire network of trails.
And it isn't that costly a place. I stayed at Le Joyeaux in Faubourg, near
Trois-Rivières for 40 Euros (three years ago).
There are books in French describing all the trails. I gather to find them
you'd have to contact a travel bookstore in Paris.
