Absolutely.... nothing to disagree with there, if that's what they want.
My contention is that herding around with others who are probably on a
similar mission, contained in a compound on N. Jamaica or Dom. Rep can
perhaps be bettered (only for some, I agree) by trying one of the
wonderful more private resorts scattered throughout the Caribbean, many
of which offer an AI option. From The Meridian Club on Pine Cay/T&C all
the way down to Bel Air Plantation on Grenada there are loads of smaller
properties which treat guests like individuals rather than as "a market
segment".

I have just returned from a week at Jade Mountain, part of Anse
Chastanet on St. Lucia .... breathtaking and not cheap but how many
honeymoons does one plan? Hopefully only one. That week was followed by
a week at Coral Reef Club on Barbados - again at the upper end of the
market and again flawless and much enjoyed. While agreeing that the cost
of these properties is high I know there are loads of less expensive and
equally enjoyable resorts and hotels around. The time between Xmas & New
Year may prove problematic anywhere from a budgetary perspective,
especially if it is to include the airfare.

Believe me, I am not against AI resorts in principle. As mentioned
originally - each to his own poison - but when a poster asks for
suggestions for a honeymoon in the Caribbean and the first 4 or 5
responses (including one from the much respected Brian Kochera!)
suggesting the one of the phalanx of large All Inclusives, I felt that
some balance was needed .... now I'm reaching for my hard hat!
