Those who are choosing small are going to their established TA's. One
gave an example of a passenger that wanted nothing to do with the Grand
Princess and wanting something smaller. Others are going to Oceania.
Others are sticking with the S-Class HAL ships, ships like the NCL Dream
and Wind, the Celebrity Zenith or Horizon, etc. Some don't always want
one size or the other, but the choice of having a ship a smaller size
than 80,000 when they are in the mood for one that size.
I agree, big is relative, about many things. And, groups tend to want
big ships, so if you are doing group cruises, you'll find more
interested in big ships. I prefer over 100,000 ton ships when sailing
with a group.
