Lee, we were on the Voyager at the end of August, and found things a
little different than they were last year according to Mark's post. The
Voyager, and I'm assuming the Explorer, still does have the Cyber Cabin
phone hookups available, but the ship also has wi-fi hotspots, allowing
you to use your own laptop, as long as you've got a networking card.
You can rent one from them (a ridiculous $10/ day or something like
that) or, of course, bring your own.
While you can't use the wi-fi in your cabin, there are several areas on
the ship that you can, among them, the Promenade, the Viking Crown
Lounge, and a few others. The connection is much quicker and more
reliable than with Cyber Cabin. We've used both, so I can personally
attest to this.
You do have to purchase time. The cheapest package was $50 for 150
minutes, which, while still more expensive than Internet cafes in port,
is a whole lot cheaper than the per-minute rate in the ship's own
computer center. You also have the ability to download your e-mail to
read off-line, as well as being able to compose off-line and send
attachments, upload, etc., which you don't have when using a ship's
computer.
If you'd still prefer to use the in-room Cyber Cabin, I believe the
rental was $100 for the week, and you also still have to purchase the
minutes.
