Cozumel is known to have raw sewage intentionally or unintentionally
(flash flood e.g., that's very common) into hotel swimming and
diving areas.

Some folks are less immuned to the bacteria and parasites in
Cozumel's drinking water. Some catch the Montesuma by just
using ice tab water ice cubes or brush teeth with tab water.

It's doubtful that the Tx/La hurricanes had anything to do with
it. The few less-severe hurricanes in Coz itself probably
cause much street flooding and pollution to the ocean.

In any event, Bactrim, DZM, and other bacteria-build-up
prevention/cure pills usually do the trick; Cipro works well.
If all fails, the Coz docs (for 50 bucks) can raise someone
who appeared to be dead from such within 12 hours (by
prescibing some Mexican specials).

I've never suffered from the bac/parasite attacked, for the
countless days I stayed in Cozumel to have done well over
1200 dives there. (Stopped counting my Cozumel total since
2002). But my wife was hit so badly at one time that if
God had said he could cure her in 8 hours, I would have
laughed at His face. But one Dr. Lewis there (still
practicing there, I think) made a believer out of ME, when
my wife revived from the dead in 8 hours, and was diving
within a day or so from that. :-)

I showed the prescribed medicine to our 'Merkin docs, and
they didn't have the slightest idea what the miracle drug
was.
