I know I'll be dating myself with this one.. Back in the 1960's at
Palisades Amusement Park, they had a salt water pool with a wave
machine. Waves could be set from three foot to six foot. Long boards
(see surfing history) were not allowed. I think this was one of the
first wave machines for leisure prior to this they were just used in
oceanographic research.
