First, unless your trip is very different from mine, the temperature will be
in the mid 30's....probably not below freezing. S. Georgia will be a few
degrees warmer. It can be windy, especially on the Zodiac trips ashore.
You can expect some combination of snow, ice, mud and rock on the surface.
You will need to do some walking over uneven ground. A collapsible WALKING
STICK could be useful.
You probably will not be off the boat for more than 3 hours at a time.
So, you probably don't need high tech military gear. What you will probably
need is a waterproof parka with a hood. Snow pants. Wool socks. Below the
knee waterproof boots for wet landings. Gloves with liners. A ski hat of
some sort...or anything to cover your ears and head. SUN TAN STUFF for your
face. . SUN GLASSES (bring an extra pair).. A plastic bag for your camera
while in the Zodiacs A way to carry a bottle of drinking water.
Some way to keep an easy to get extra set of camera batteries next to your
body so they stay warm (batteries die quickly in cold weather).
Some sea sick stuff (the Drake Passage can be smooth as glass or some of the
roughest water in the world).
You are going to one of the great places in the world. Fewer people go in
an average YEAR than attend a single baseball game.
Have a great trip.
