We've been on Princess many times and have always used assigned seating
until last year. Personal Choice has made it easier for people to "jump
ship" (assigned tables) in search of more like minded people. This happened
to us two years ago when we were seated with two younger couples who wished
to dine with people their own age leaving us with a mother and daughter in
whom we had little in common.
Last year we decided to try Personal Choice. It worked out well for us as
we reserved the same table (waiter) at the same time, 8:15. The first two
evenings we had different table mates but eventually we settled in with the
same fine folks. What I'm trying to say is that you can make Personal
Choice very much like assigned seating by requesting the same time and
table. Be sure to check with the maitre 'd the first day and ask for an
assignment. They can be very accommodating.
