Well.... what you can do is arrange for someone to go to the hospital if
they're too "stubborn" to go themselves - if they need to go... talk to
Doctors, talk to nurses, talk to someone at a nursing home, talk to a
brother or sister about a sick parent, etc.
You can manage things very well over the phone - in fact even if you were
home you would probably do most of what you needed to do over the phone..
You can offer guidance, make decisions, etc.

Telephone signals travel pretty fast. Cell phone signals are microwaves....
which I assume (could be wrong) travel at the speed of light.
You don't need to be home. You may just need to be in communication.
