Most of the folks I know who are on a budget use a single side band
instead of Iridium.

And I fail to see why a phone should be a fashion accessory - who
cares if it is 'brick like. For utility, I really prefer my old bag
phone, which was heavy, but had a serious antenna and a lot of power,
which incidentally was not directed at your brain - it was in the bag.
Plus I could see to dial even when the receiver was at my ear.
