It's much more than separating wheat from the chaff.

What Ray Goldenberg is doing is against USENET Guidelines for
ALL newsgroups. His indiscriminant "news releases" are all
preludes to "come visit my website and patronize my business".

Blatently obvious ADS.

Not correct. It is, according to USENET guidelines, SELF moderated,
for those groups that do not have individual designated as its
moderator.

rec.travel.air is a group POORLY moderated by its members for
USENET violations on ADs, relative to one Ray Goldenberg.

Yes, they are. And many in this group are good citizens who are TAs.
They participate in the discussion without spamming the group with
thinly disguised ads.

That is technically correct.

But it would take a fool not to see through Ray's AD in the form of
: come visit my webpage and patronize my business, as soon as
he posted those "news releases" to serve as excuse for his own AD.

If Ray does the same thing he does in most of the newsgroups
in which I've participated, his ADs would have been sniffed out
with a post or two and he would have been driven off by
the GROUP, as self-moderated on the anti-netiquette and
anti-USENET-guidelines of Ray's ads.
