Your argument is fallacious.
He is in VIOLATION of USENET Guidelines and rules. It's not
a matter of popularity. It is a USENET discussion group for the
purpose of travel.cruise discussions.
I find the google archives of the posts an invaluable source of
information. The other groups you mentioned are NOT part
of the USENET, else google would have archived its posts.
The reverse is true. Ray should form his own majordomo,
bulletin board, or other NON-usenet group and post news
releases to his heart's content.
You argument is tentamount to: Hey, you don't like the
hoodlums, thug, muggers, drug-sellers in our neighborhood?
Go elsewhere!
I don't find that kind of argument very compelling.

Make it pickpocket and petty theft then. You quibble over the
analogy rather than face that TRUTH behind the analogy.

Probably. Besides, I don't have time for that kind of thing.
Wait till the King Rat has a wide following of his spamming practice,
then if this group is to survive, the only remedy would be to rid
the rats.

The pickpocket and petty thief King Rat Ray Goldenberg has been
picking pockets for years. It takes more than a day, or even a
month or a year to clean up the neighborhood.
It's the neighborhood that belongs to whoever decides to be there.
It's up to THEM, not me, to decide what to do when the neigborhood
is over run with posts like "Hi everyone. I have this ad from the
newspaper. ... If you haven't seen it, come to my travel agency,
and I'll see you my services there."
