Barbara,
I have taken two cruises to Italy and the Mediterranean...both were
wonderful...The Renaissance 7 was to Civitavecchia (port for Rome) in 2001
and the last one was, May 2004, on the new Westerdam and it sailed from and
back to Venice...
Ships do not stay in port for more than a day or two at best...Perhaps it
would be better for them to fly to Naples, find the family roots for which
they are searching, take a train to Venice and spend a few days there before
boarding a cruise ship. The Westerdam stayed in Venice for two days..the day
of arrival and overnight, sailing late the next afternoon...We flew into
Venice early and stayed for two days before our cruise and after we returned
from our cruise, we stayed in Venice a couple more days...This might be a
more relaxing way for them to accomplish what they want to do..
