No more customary than tipping them at the end of the cruise if
he is your SAME room steward. EVERY room steward is expected
to deliver breakfast for those lazy passengers.
I NEVER had any room service -- always up early, get the exercise
walking to the buffet and walking to the dining room every time I eat.

The keyword is the "MAIN" function. Our cabin steward is lucky
that we are NOT lazy fat slobs who are too lazy to walk to eat!
When passengers REQUEST room service for breakfast, do you
think the cruise line has a different crew, such as the medical staff,
for THAT service?
Of course not. That is PART of the expected service of the
room steward. It is not his MAIN duty, but one of his duties, just
like sending and picking up my laundry, shoe shine, complimentary
hors d'oeuvres all which are complimentary to my Princess
cruises.

That is correct. You always have the option to tip your steward
EXTRA for what you perceived to be his extra job well done.
But it is no more "expected" than me having to tip him for taking
my shoes to be shined, because I don't know where to take it
myself. :-) It's his JOB for which he is already paid.
