Hello Everyone! I am going to give my review of the Crown Princess
again this is my opinion and we all have our opinions! Just my own
Honest thoughts and opinions.
The Port: Not at all as easy to get to as Bayonne, actually Brooklyn
was the Pits to get to Do not know if I would want to go out of there
again BUT the View of the Skyline, Ellis Island and Lady Liberty were
breathtaking. You felt like you could touch them from your balcony!
Check in was very easy.
The stateroom: We had a balcony R 708, There was 3 cabins from our
office that went,R706, R 707 was facing Lady Liberty MUCH better view!
There was ALOT of storage, the closet was huge ,the Bathroom SMALL,the
room was functional, there is a chair in front of the sliding doors
cause it is a little cramped and no where else to put it. The balcony
small but for 2 people it was fine, fine, fine, 2 metal chairs and a
table, I like this table because it was as high as the rail almost and
very easy to eat out there on.
Our balcony was covered BUT under us the Mini suites , were all open
but much bigger balcony as they had 4 chairs and a table . If your
going to be doing something you do not want others to see Look around
to see who can see you! LOL!
The bedding was certainly better then before BUT NO WAY as good as the
Freedom of the Seas, where they have those Memory Foam toppers on their
beds, Princess does NOT. IT was a mattress, very firm and it had a
cover over it that was very nice and pillows were nice, but FOS MUCH
better bedding. The fridge though seemed much colder then ones on other
ships. The temperature never seemed to get real cold in the cabin but
it was adequate. Shower has the old Shower curtains and was small ,a
NON removable shower head, I prefer RCCLS where you can take it off and
they have doors on the shower. This bathroom is smaller then RCCLs, in
case you want a comparison no the 2 new ships that are out. In my
opinion they should have taken some of this closet area and made a bit
larger bathroom. I went into the Insides and they were nice, but I
would suggest to look at the 8 or so special II categories as these
insides were LARGE and WONDERFUL! Mini suite is what I have on my next
sailing, was very nice with a larger vanity area which is a semicircle
and has 2 flat screen TVs. Why they did not put Flat screens in all the
Room Categories is beyond me. There is a sofa in the Mini suites I
would say the D1 categories on RCCL and the Mini suites are comparable
in size.
The Public Areas:
The Crown is certainly named correctly, she is a GEM! My first
impression was ELEGANCE. They outdid theirselves. The public areas are
beautiful. There is activies galore, The Atrium area was beautiful with
Stores and cafes on 3 floors, there is funny jugglers etc on the bottom
of the Atrium that you can watch juggle or do cartwheels are just plain
ol amuse you!
So here is my take on some of the Public areas:
Dining: 3 dining rooms Michelangelo, Da Vinci and Botticelli For the
most part Princess Dining rooms do not lure me, not like Royal
Caribbeans, I hate to keep comparing but alot of people keep asking me
is it like RCCL? SO that is why the comparison. ITs different, ITs
Princess Not Rccl, Let me tell you this though the FOOD is 10 times
better then RCCL so who cares if there is not a Chandelier in there!
Bottecelli is a pain as usual with this class to get to bad flow so
whatever one your assigned to it be ok after you get the feel of the
ship we ate in Michelangelo because we could go to any of them on this
particular sailing. I had the Double Lobster tail dinner and a Great
Cream of Zuccini soup and tried the cold soup and it was great, the
Veal Ravioli were to die for! One person had Pheasant and said it was
very good, some had tenderloin said it was good. We went to the Horizon
court for lunch this is the buffet, I was UNIMPRESSED. things were not
as hot as I would have wanted. and the flow is not great, but its not
bad by any means. The breakfast was DEFINITLY better in the Dining
Room, actually the best breakfast I had of any of the ships I have
cruised on. the french toast delish and the omelet was wonderful.
Sabatinis- although not open for actual reservations this was a
beautiful restaurant, with fountains on the terrace and lovely table
settings, it is currently $20pp surcharge and well worth it from what I
saw.
Crown Grille- Steak house- Very nice looking extensive menu $25 pp $34
pp if you wanted a 1 1/2 pound Maine Lobster- I like the look of
Sabbatinis more but will definitly do both.
Pizza and Ice cream bar- I LOVE Princesses PIZZA YUMYUMYUM
Vines wine and seafood- YES you pay for the seafood. Not expensive
though. small area nice for a get together and a glass of wine. I loved
the place I think its called Calypso Cove where they had these
WONDERFUL CHOCOLATE covered apples ($3) MOUTH watering!
Clubs-
I loved Club Fusion! it was big and airy and there wa a sports bar at
the back and a nice size dance floor ( much bigger then skywalkers)
there was something called Dancing heads where it is a green screen and
they have your heads on these little bodies on surf boards and make a
CD it was funny.
Skywalkers -is the Highest Club on the ship but a postage stamp dance
floor, looks smaller then the one on Grand Princess.
Explorers club is like the other Grand class clubs and had a good band
playing and good dancing..
Wheelhouse Bar- That was hopping with people congregating and drinking,
There are many more bars, but its all blending in now!
POOL areas- Beautiful But I always thought Princess had some of the
nicest pool areas, no its not like the Freedom class with waterparks or
anything like that, much more adult and plenty of deck chairs
THE SANCTUARY- WOW! Adults ONLY quiet area with a setting that is
tranquil, this was gorgeous. beautiful pool and deck area and you can
get a massage and just wallow in peace....
Casino- IT was very nice during the day before it was open, BUT at
night it was PACKED PACKED and smoky so I donated $5 and moved on ther
is a cigar bar in the Casino area off to the side. But guess since I am
not big into gambling not much to comment on.
NOTE on the ELEVATORS-SLOW SLOW SLOW...
Downside- the Crew- VERY VERY NEW. some were there a few years with the
company MANY were brand new and I think there is a language barrier not
as far as they do not speak English ,as they did, but I think it was
understanding what we wanted. For instance, I asked for DIET SPRITE I
got DIET COKE,Asked for Frangelico They had no clue what that was but
it was on the bar menu. Asked for a BBC ( bananas bailey and Cream) and
4 different times,4 different bars, we had to explain it to the bar
waiter. this is something they should know, asked for a stinger
straight up in a Martini glass they had no idea what a stinger was and
it came in a brandy glass, Its not that it was something that with time
will not work out, but it was annoying that we had to keep explaining,
I think if we sat at the bar the bar TENDERS would know what we wanted
as they made dynamite BBC's but the waiters had no clue. Many are from
Poland I saw none from Jamaica but tha tis more of a Carnival ,RCCL
thing . I love the diverseness and the culture of all the different
countries. OTher then the waiters still being "green"I think that it
will work out in about 2 months are so when they get more experience.
All in All The Ship was elegant,Food Very Good (not fantastic buffet
but maybe that was just this sailing),beautiful ship! Princess You out
did yourself!
