You are close but off just a little. The non-smoking Paradise failed
because it couldn't attract groups and families.

The problem is that there are very few groups of people where ALL the
members do not smoke. Most groups have at least one smoker, maybe more.
Faced with booking a cruise on a non-smoking ship that would exclude some of
the group members or booking the same kind of cruise on the same type of
ship that would allow ALL members of the group to attend, the choice was
usually for the smoking allowed ship.

Poor family business was also a problem. It seems that every family has at
least one person who smokes and that put the Paradise out of contention when
families would choose a ship for a family cruise. Uncle Bill smokes so we
can't pick a non smoking ship.

Poor group and family bookings led to more open cabins which led to very
low pricing. I remember doing a group on the Paradise (moved to that ship
after the Norway blew up) and we sold inside cabins for $290 pp plus the
port/tax. When that started happening on a regular basis, the handwriting
was on the wall.
