| Hi Gang,
| We have cruised several times and have noticed people with walkie
| talkies. Is this something which is given to parents who perhaps have
| children in the children's area, or is this an item available to anyone
| wishing to keep in touch with friends or family while on the ship? My
| question in particular will be for Carnival when we go with our kids and
| grandchildren this fall.

| Thanks,

We bought a pair of Motorola walkie talkies. Although we rarely use them,
when we do we have no problems onboard or in port. They claim to work up to
3 miles, but I've learned that it's much shorter unless you pay the FCC or
someone for an extended area. I believe the "free" range is more like 1
1/2 - 2 miles.

I bought them at Radio Shack and paid about $40 for the pair including a
dual charger stand. If nothing else, they help when we shop in small markets
or large stores in the various ports. I tend to wander off in search of the
"perfect piece of crap" to spend my money on lol. I bought mine about 1 1/2
year ago.

LES!
