I would probably buy Motorola, just for the comfort of a major manufacturer.
I have had several and they all perform about the same. This is especially
true in unobstructed areas. Very handy....can save a lot of walking and
searching for someone.

If you go to a public function...say a county fair (in the US)...you will
find virtually every channel (there are never enough) crammed with people
(read teens and preteens, often female) talking for every conceivable
reason.

OTOH, on a steel ship, unless you are on the same deck as the person that
you want to contact....it's a very iffy situation. If you are topside
somewhere, and your wife is 5 or 6 decks below in your inside stateroom, you
can pretty well forget it and use a house phone.

If you take them ashore....and many do...remember that you are at risk for
the laws of the port. They may be illegal. Having said that, this happens
a lot, yet the news has never reported anyone arrested for using them in the
Caribbean...at least that I have heard of.
