The guidelines do say that some non-prescription medications are
allowed.

It will be an inconvenience, but not life threatening if you don't get
your own brand of toothpaste or shaving cream. Food allergies, you
tell the airline in advance and they have alternate meals.

That's my husband's view too. Flying is such a hassle that he won't
do it anymore.
