We have four cruises to Alaska under our belts...last two were on HAL and I
would not take a cruise to Alaska on anything but HAL...we were so
pleased...They were all taken during July and there was a mixture of all
ages, but many passengers were retired.
We took the Statendam and the Ryndam.

Reasons:
1.Wrap around balcony that permits you to see the view from all sides of the
ship. Many photo opportunities.
2.HAL ships come up real close to Glacier Bay and stop for more than an hour
and you see animal life, glaciers calving and the most gorgeous scenery you
can ever imagine.
3.Deck chairs and blankets on outside promenade deck and free hot chocolate
or hot split pea soup served by the staff.
4.The Crow's Nest located high up with the entire frontal view
ahead...windows from the floor to ceiling with comfortable chairs and
recliners to enjoy the view.
5..The ships' decor is in good taste with huge vases of real flowers in the
public areas.
6. Good food and service.
7. Many flavors of ice cream and fresh baked cookies available when the
buffet is open at lunch and later.
8. Movie theatre with fairly recent movies and fresh popped corn
9. The Loft, a new teens only lounge resembling a NY artist's loft that
features a special passageway to a secluded sundeck called the Oasis, which
has hammocks, cape cod chairs, palm style lighting, a cave for cooling off
and a laser light show with a lively rock sound system..The Loft has
Internet, Trivia, games, movies and videos.. Perhaps your 17 year old might
enjoy and meet some friends his age.

If this is your first cruise to Alaska, you are really in for a treat! Be
sure you take enough film...you have so much absolutely
beautiful scenery, flowers and animal photo ops!

Have you narrowed it down to a specific HAL or RCI ship that you are
considering yet?
Happy planning!
