Victoria Cruises in 2007 is offering a variety of four- to nine-day programs
in China with Yangtze River cruises. The "Three Gorges Highlights" is
five-days upstream and four days downstream between Chongqing and Yichang.
This cruise sails through the valleys that comprise the Three Gorges
(Qutang, Wu and Xiling gorges) and visit the Three Gorges Dam. Prices start
at $675 per person, double occupancy, in a standard cabin during the
shoulder season (March 17-30, June, July, August and November) and $720 in
peak season (April, May, September and October). Shore excursions cost an
additional $80 per person. The upstream program sails daily except Tuesday,
and the downstream program sails daily except on Saturday. The eight-day
"Three Gorges Explorer" takes travelers on a roundtrip journey,
Chongqing-Yichang-Chongqing, offering different shore excursions in each
direction. In addition to the Three Gorges and Small Gorges, there are shore
excursions to New Zigui, a new city built to accommodate families relocated
as a result of rising Yangtze waters; Yichang, the cultural center of the
western Hubei Province; and Shibaozhai, known for its 400-year-old, 12-story
wooden pagoda. Depending on river conditions, the excursion to Shibaozhai
may be substituted with visits to Fengdu, the "ghost city," or Wanzhou, the
"Gateway to the Eastern Szechuan Province." Prices start at $1,200 during
the shoulder season and $1,300 in peak season. Shore excursions cost an
additional $225 per person. The program sails daily except Saturday. The
"Grand Yangtze Discovery" encompasses the Three Gorges area as well as sites
along the Eastern part of the Yangtze River. Journeying between Chongqing
and Shanghai (upstream for nine days and downstream for seven days),
highlights include the Three Gorges, the dam, Mount Huangshan, and Nanjing,
where cruisers will experience the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and a Qing
Dynasty-style bazaar surrounding a Confucian temple. Prices start at $1,400
during the shoulder season and $1,500 in peak season. Shore excursions cost
an additional $225 per person. The downstream program sails on Mondays, and
the upstream program sails on Sundays. For more information, call
