We were on the Mariner Eastern Carib. itinerary this past December and have
booked a repeat for December 2007. We could not have asked for a better
cruise. The stateroom was great (1388, Deck 10, all the way aft). The food
in both the main Dining room and the Windjammer was good and the service was
topnotch. Our Cabin attendant kept things shipshape and deserved the extra
cash tip we gave her over and above the one added to our account. (this also
applied to our dining room waiter and his assistant.)We did not try the
specialty restaurants so can't comment.
The only show we went to was the ice show which we really enjoyed. The band
on the pool deck was way to loud for our taste and we would have much
preferred steel drum/calypso music instead of reggae(Sp?)
Our only complaints were the immigration procedure in St. Thomas and the
slow debarkation. In St Thomas everyone has to clear immigration and the
line was long and very, very slow. These two instances were really the
only 2 times that the ship felt crowded. The only cure I can figure out for
this would be to change the order of the ports to St. Thomas, St Maarten,
Coco Cay. Then it would not be necessary to clear immigration until
returning to Port Canaveral. The slow debarkation is what it is, and I
would imagine can be mostly attributed to Customs/Immigration.
From what I read the ship is showing it's 3 year age and will be in dry-dock
this coming spring for refurbishment.
