I was not aware that cruises swipe your credit card under Cash Advance, for
in reality, it will be a regular credit card transaction just like
everything else. My wife Deborah and I have been on 13 cruises ourselves,
and have booked umpteen more passengers on cruises to just about everywhere,
and never once ran into this situation.
Likewise, at the end of your cruise, you will be presented with an itemized
billing of all your ship-board purchases, which will then be presented to
your creditor card company, and as I said, just like any other credit card
purchase. However, at that time you also have the opportunity to settle up
your depts., and pay in cash instead, that is if your want. Just take your
statement to the Pursers Office and check out your options.
As a side note, before I go on a cruise, I notify my credit card company
that between certain dates I may be making purchases on my credit card that
are a bit beyond my normal spending habits. They will then note this
situation, so if large purchases do come in, they will not put a hold on the
credit card, possible thinking it was lost or stolen.
Happy sailing,
