Recently, it made the news when a brand of local gas station was
placing a $100 hold when you swipe your card before fueling, and then
taking several days to clear the hold with the actual charge.

On the other hand, if a $300 - $500 hold from a cruise line check-in
were a problem for me -- I'd rethink whether I should be spending
money on a cruise vacation, rather than paying down some
credit card bills. No need to even call Suze Orman on that.
