A new tipping scam Posted on: Thu, 21 Dec 2006 11:15:23 EST

Having just returned from an Island Princess cruise yesterday a couple at
our table had an interesting story about their cabin steward. He approached
them, as usually, on the first day upon arrival & told them to not do the
automatic tipping for the cabin service & to tip him directly (every day)
with his hand out stretched. From what I understand by eliminating the auto
portion he would still get a tip from the general funds (reduced somewhat)
but would gain considerably from the daily handouts. They didn't go along
with his request & were waiting for their service to degrade after a few
days but still had good service thought out the cruise.
