Cruise ship employees aren't paid a salary. They do sign a contract for
something like $100 per 4 months to validate the contract. All their income
is from tips. So in that instance it would be better to call it paying
their salary.
As far as I can figure, they ARE entitled to payment for service rendered...
simply because it is NOT something extra which you are paying them.
To stiff them would be comparable to you working your job for a week, and
then your company deciding not to pay you for the week.
To not pay for services rendered is simply being a cheapskate. And
mandatory tipping was put in place because of those cheapskates.
