I do not know how to swim so I can't snorkel or scuba without feeling a
little intimidated.
My wife and I did go Helmet Diving in St. Thomas about 3 years ago. It was
my idea.
I figured if I was going to sink to the bottom I might as well walk on it.
They give you a big release form to fill out and once you sign it there is
about a 5 minute orientation talk.
You then put on the water shoes and gloves and go to the ladder.
When I stepped into the water and had the helmet put on me, as soon as I saw
the water go above my head I stopped breathing. Then I heard the bubbles
behind me and I started breathing and went down to the bottom.
We walked around for about 30 minutes anywhere from 15 to 35 feet under the
water surface.
The view was wonderful, we didn't get our heads wet, we kept our glasses on
and enjoyed the walk.
Helmet diving is the only one of the three for me.
As for the dangers aforementioned - the view and experience tremendously
outweigh the risk.
