One of the variables in answering your question is that the gratuity paid by
American tourists is usually greater than that offered by their European
counterparts. I know that when we were in Spain for our pre-cruise the
amounts we were tipping were greater than what was suggested in the tour
books.

However, on ships that cater mainly to American tourists, we tipped $2 for
simple morning coffee and cake, and $3 to $5 if there was cooked food
involved (as in bacon and eggs).
