What did the Paradise in was the lack of group bookings. Every family group
has an Uncle Bill or an Aunt Ida who smokes... and they won't pick a
non-smoking ship. Church groups, bowling leagues, even internet groups...
all have someone who smoke.

Case in point... we had a group scheduled to go on the SS Norway and then
the boiler blew up and the cruise was cancelled. We switched to the
Paradise because it was sailing from the same port on the same date and most
of the people in the group had already bought air tickets, etc. Of the
original 105 people booked, 75 moved over to the Paradise. The rest either
cancelled or booked a cruise on a different ship and most of them cited the
non-smoking rule on the Paradise.

When you go to a complete non-smoking policy, you lose the smokers... but
you also lose their families, friends, groups, etc.
