I like balconies when I can afford them. As far as sleeping late, or
taking a nap -- the d.s on HAL ships do an excellent job of room
darkening.
Weather permitting, a balcony is a nice place to greet the day and have
room service ordered breakfast.
Most of the times, it's a nice quiet place to view the sea while
avoiding crowds. Speaking of naps, as we sailed away from Jamaica I
took a very pleasant nap in the sun on our balcony. The sound of sea
sloshing against the ship, a distant call of dolphins. It was all very
nice. On days where I want to wake early, I leave the d.s wide open.
There's nothing more glorious than watching the sun rise out of the
sea. It also makes for a great night light, especially while sailing
through bioluminescent organisms.
I also like it when cabins have mini-refrigerators in them. I chill my
water bottles in them, and put fresh fruit from room service in the
fridge for later.
