Clay,

I didn't spend enough time looking at the various sailings to give you a
comprehensive comparison. However, it seems like it might be worth running
the numbers, doesn't it? I did see an Explorer 9-night E Carib at $949, but
there's a 12-night for $999. That seems like a no brainer to me. On first
blush, yeah, the prices are a bit higher than some weeks on the Mariner's
7-night out of Port Canaveral, but I tend to work off of per diems, not
totals, so, e.g., the Explorer does 12 nights Dec. 2 for $999 inside =
$83.25 per day vs. Mariner's least expensive 7-night W Carib appears to be
$689 inside on Sept. 9 = $98.43 per day. (I realize these figures are short
of port charges and/or taxes.) While the total cruise fare to do the
Explorer is higher, if you have the time, you can go 5 nights longer for
less dollars per day by spending $310 more on cruise fare. The actual cost
difference between the two vacation trips, however, should be less than
$310, as it will cost you more for ground transport (you said you weren't
flying) to get to Port Canaveral from Baltimore than it will to get to
Bayonne. In fact, aren't you going to have to spend the night at least one
night each way on that Florida run?

Happy planning,

Diana
