Try not to use a tour ... Rome is a city that has so much to offer ...
and you may want to spend more time in a place ... we had a private
tour guide eurolimousines ... which for 50 euros an hour for guide/
driver gave you a unique perspective ... Francesco has several hidden
views that you don't get through a tour ...
But even so I still repeat try not to use one ... get a Rome tour book
and do some planning on your own ... look for some easy walking ... as
one finds hidden gems just walking say from Piazza Navona to Villa
Borghese ...past the Spanish step and the Piazza del populo ...
You will love the Vatican ... St. Peters with the catacombs there
JPII's tomb and the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel ... The first
time there we entered in awe and spent over an hour just in the
Sistine Chapel ... you eventually can find a seat along the wall crane
your head back ... and just look up and around in astonishment ...
The first time we stayed at a little quaint hoelt call Hotel
Emmaus ... to the left of St. Peters as you look at it ... easy
walk ... and not a tourist area ... Not fancy at all ... but clean
comfortable and (its best attribute) real Rome ...
We've been there 3 times now ... and still on the list to go back
to ...
