Three years ago, George Leppla booked us on a 2-week cruise on the
Regent Sea. After flying to its home port and being tendered out in a
rubber raft, we found the ship to be very spacious and uncrowded.
Unfortunately, it was so uncrowded that there was no crew, fellow
passengers or staff on board. There wasn't even anyone on board to
confiscate the liquor we'd smuggled in. We had the entire ship to
ourselves for the entire two weeks. The best part was that it was a
100% port call cruise, with no annoying ocean days.
We had full run of the ship, though we had to spend most of our days
fishing to have something to eat. On the second or third day of the
cruise, I caught two seagulls, so we had plenty of foul to go with our
fish. There were no announcements to irritate us, no stupid pool
games, Mahjong ladies or even crowds in the show room. There were no
lines at the buffet, but then there was no food there, either.
In all, we considered it to be a great cruise, but felt George's price
of $300/day plus 10% tip to the travel agent was a bit excessive.
Getting ashore to return home was a bit of a problem, since George had
not included a return ticket for the rubber raft. We simply tied
several packing crates and a pallet together and floated back to shore
on the evening tide. I admit to being bitten a couple times by a
curious shark, but it was reported that the shark lived after
detoxification.
