It's not a waste of money for those of us who prefer a balcony.
Everyone's got different priorities. I'd prefer to cruise once a year
in a better cabin vs. twice a year in a lesser cabin. Fortunately,
ships have lots of different cabins to suit most everyone's travel
budget.

Well...definitely not among the very wealthy, but am willing to spend
more for the things that are important to me, and will have the most
impact on how well I'll enjoy my vacation. I'm not a shopper, so don't
spend much at all in ports. Money saved there moves into the budget
for the cabin. Things like that.
