You are correct... group cruises account for about 1/3 of my business. Most
of them are small groups... churches, families, etc. Having a cruise line
ban all smoking would not impact this business as they would choose other
cruise lines. If ALL cruise lines went non-smoking, once again, the impact
on my business would be minimal if any.
Smoking or non-smoking.... people will still go on cruises and I'll still be
able to make a living.
FWIW... I did have a very successful group on the Paradise. It is seldom
that I do a repeat group on a ship. I also had other, smaller family groups
on that ship, but it was nowhere near as popular for groups as other ships.
As far as a company putting their whole fleet non-smoking, it is too much of
a financial risk. I am sure the bean counters have crunched these numbers
late into the night and if they felt they could make this change without
losing profit... they would.
It is all about the money.
